Business Insider names the Porsche Panamera as the Car of the Year in 2017. The Panamera beat 14 other finalists of the finest supercars. The 2018 Porsche 911 GT2 RS has done it! It has lapped the Nürburgring-Nordschleife in a new record time of 6:47.3. Brit Nick Tandy and German Lars Kern shared driving duties and came up wit the record five laps under 6m 50s. It was Lars Kern, however, who drove for the impressive 6m 47.3s record. more According to Fox News, the head of GT cars at Porsche, Frank-Steffen Walliser, said after the run, “At the start of the development process, we set ourselves a lap time target for the GT2 RS of less than 7:05. For the thirteenth consecutive year, Porsche has taken home the highest ranking in JD Power’s APEAL research study. The APEAL—Automotive Performance Execution and Layout—study measures drivers’ satisfaction with their vehicles over the first ninety days of ownership. The thrilling luxury Porsche brand has continued to impress customers year after year. Of the study, Vice President of Global Automotive at JD Power Dave Sargent said, “Many automakers are getting better and better at giving consumers what they want in a vehicle. The industry is doing a very good job of creating vehicles customers like across every segment, and the APEAL study identifies why this is. Manufacturers are making ever-higher quality vehicles, but this is not coming at the expense of performance, styling, utility or features.” To measure customer satisfaction, JD Power gathers answers from drivers to 77 different questions that indicate their love and attachment to their new vehicle. This year, 25 models took home awards for their overall appeal. Porsche outranked all other brands in customer satisfaction, earning an overall APEAL score of 884. Each individual model was also evaluated, and the Porsche 911, Porsche Cayenne, and Porsche Macan all ranked highly in the study. Of these models, JD Power had nothing but positive comments for Porsche. JD Power noted about the Porsche 911, “For the 2017 model year, new turbocharged engines became standard for all versions, and Porsche updated the styling to provide visual reference to the change. Infotainment system upgrades also arrived, along with the powerful GTS model series.” The Cayenne, JD Power explained, was updated with a new infotainment system and the new Platinum Edition provided an eye-catching upgrade in the list 2017 trim options. The brand’s “lower-priced entry-level” model also received accolades from JD Power for its overall appeal. Porsche has released the specs of their all-new Panamera Hybrid. Combining the beloved four-liter V8 engine from the Panamera Turbo with an electric motor, the vehicle boasts 680 horsepower, a top speed of 193 miles per hour, and an acceleration rate of just 3.4 seconds. The electric motor is supplied with power via a liquid-cooled lithium-ion battery with an energy capacity of 14.1 kWh. If users charge the Panamera with the 32 A charger, the battery is fully charged in just 2.4 hours and will travel 62 miles using no emissions! BRAVO to Porsche on being ranked as a most dependable brand in the latest J.D. Power Study. The study, now in its 28 th year, examines problems experienced during the past 12 months by original owners of 2014 model-year vehicles. Overall dependability is determined by the number of problems experienced per 100 vehicles, with a lower score reflecting higher quality. The study covers 177 specific problems grouped into eight major vehicle categories. Porsche came out on top with a score of 110 per 100 vehicles. The 2017 U.S. Vehicle Dependability Study is based on responses from 35,186 original owners of 2014 model-year vehicles after three years of ownership. The study was fielded from October through December 2016. Congratulations to the team at Porsche for its high rank in the J.D. Drawing in all motorcar enthusiast as well as lifelong Porsche fans, Porsche opened up their new Los Angeles Experience Center. Allowing customers to get up close and personal with all things Porsche, the center takes the stage as the second location of its kind in the USA. A glass wall in the entrance hall gives visitors a glimpse of what is taking place in the workshop. The site is spread across nearly 50 acres, filling every space with Porsche models from front to back. “Over 100,000 guests worldwide in 2016 is an impressive testament to this concept and demonstrates the fascination that the brand holds for people,” says Detlev Von Platen, Member of the Executive Board. Those who visit the Experience Center can take part in a 90-minute driving program. The program includes a 6.5 kilometer test drive along with eight training modules. The test drive is led by an instructor on the track and covers two circuits, an off-road course, a dynamic area, and much more. At a sold-out event at the Porsche Museum in Germany, engineers and drivers paired up to showcase several racing cars. The purpose? To listen intently to the engines of rare sports cars. Porsche Sound Night has been a favorite international event of Porsche enthusiasts for six years now. Of the 2016 evening, Porsche describes, “Visitors were…able to listen to the engine of the winning vehicle from Le Mans in 1977. The 936/77 Spyder was presented by racing legend Jürgen Barth. Later on in the evening, visitors had the chance to enjoy the engine sounds of the 804 Formula 1 racing car from 1962, the 911 Carrera RSR 3.0 from 1974 and the 956 C. Some of the latest vehicles were also present, including the new 718 Boxster and the 911 R.” The sound of a Porsche is distinct, and the company was excited to host an event honoring the roars of Porsches from the past! The buzz about the 2017 Porsche 718 Boxster has not dulled since the roadster’s release earlier this year, and dealerships across the nation have been eager to share the new redesign with customers. On September 9 th, the team at Porsche St. Louis met 32 auto enthusiasts at Gateway Motorsports Track for an exciting day of high speeds and fast curves in the new 718 Boxster to celebrate the vehicle’s debut. Gateway Motorsports Track is a nationally known course located just outside of St. Louis in Madison, Illinois. The event was divided into two sessions. Guests of our morning session enjoyed a Rev Your Engine breakfast (complete with cool classics, like pastries, fresh fruit, and a parfait bar) and an Omelet Station with all the accompaniments. Our afternoon session ended with a selection of Track Favorite snacks, from churros and chocolate to gourmet hamburger sliders. During these meals, the new 718 Boxster was revealed for all in attendance to touch, feel, and see up close. Led by professional Porsche driving instructor Cass Whitehead, each group of 16 hit the asphalt after a chalk talk designed to instill safe track practices and to explain the intricacies of the Porsche Boxster’s V6 engine and PDK automatic transmission. Two Boxsters and two Boxster S models were available on the track, and drivers had the opportunity to test the limits of each type. Our drivers reached maximum speeds of 140 miles per hour as they made their way around the NASCAR-style course. Guests left Gateway with a new appreciation of the Boxster’s powerful engine and a retro-style poster commemorating the classic car’s 2017 redesign. The Dynamic Boost Function enables the turbo in the car by maintaining the charge pressure during load changes (for example, when the accelerator pedal is released briefly). This is achieved by just interrupting fuel injection, whereas the throttle valve remains open. As a result, the engine reacts with practically no delay to another press of the accelerator pedal These three technical innovations within the Porsche 718 Boxster provide great performance, agility, and spontaneous response.
